I've just, quite literarly done the first turbo session of the year, and I feel sick. Not the good, exilarated sick you feel, but shakey to scared to cough properly or I'll puke sick. The why is it all going white and my diaphram objects by tensing up sick. I used to enjoy this... did I really?
Basically the Gids is putting me to shame - kind of - he was out on his bike two days previous, just going to work and that, but since I'm kind of home bound at the moment and it's misty outside (or was when I started) I thought I best get my arse in gear.
So, the racer has been sitting in the spare room untouched to the point it had cobwebs on it (I know, I know bad Jakky). I dusted it off and checked the tires, then since I've been 'HerInDoors' I perused YouTube and found this:Burn Fat Fast: 20 Minute Spin Class Workout and decided on it because it's 20 minutes so nice and short. It's and interval workout. I had to skip a couple of the intervals - by the end I was doing every second interval and the 'Good Job' Americanisms get you after a while - but I got a sweat on, a stitch and a bit sick so it did make me work harder.
Now I've made an amature error and not set up Garry Garmin properly, so I can't show you the statistics which aren't of interest to anyone but me, but trust me. It did happen.
Off to vomit and lie down now.
(Did I really enjoy this at one point?)

I'm a bad Yogi....
I hang my head in shame (without hunching my shoulders up to my ears - just in case my teacher's reading this). It came after we had savasana and I was all chuffed because someone started to snore and I didn't laugh, or snigger when the girls behind me did. Then when we did the 'Omn' at the end someone was completely out of tune and I lost it. I mean I really lost it, and then people behind me stated laughing, and then the teacher noticed. Then on Wednesday we were halfway through savasana at the end and I had my eyes shut and it sounded like someone had jumped on asthmatic bag pipes. And then we were sang to in Sanskrit. I didn't laugh. I would like to say however that my musical tastes exclude that particular kind of organ used.
We also have colds. Well, to clarify, I have a cold, the Gids has The Man Flu. We're both a tiny bit shaky and snottery and wheezy. His symptoms are always a little bid worse than mine because he is a man. And the bigger the man the more severe the symptoms so he doesn't complain, he just looks extremely sorry for himself.
But anyway. I can't remember when but the Etape Caledonia sign up should be rolling out shortly. Feels like waiting to be hung. In terms of what we've done this year, there hasn't been that many big cycling trips. We've not made Ullapool yet and time is running out for that and besides from cycling to and fro' on the Brommie for work, nothing else has been done.
At least I've done more than the Giddy Blonde. So far for the past two months he's ironed his shirt the night before, packed his bag for the morning, set the alarm early all with every intention of cycling in just to hit the snooze button before hitting a leisurely shower and getting the car in to work. I understand it's not a competition but I'm all in the chuffing smugness at the moment with my superior commitment to the velocipeding.
I'm going to start recording how long it takes to get me to work and back now. Just to see if there's any difference, if I'm improving on the Brompton. I'll be slower than on one of the bigger bikes, and having had a couple of windy days I'm finding the Brompton heavy on the road, so fun that will not be. I can't tell a difference in my fitness as such but I am finding by legs have got thicker - to the point they keep pulling my thighs keep pulling my trousers down - and I'm thinking that I'm going to start the turbo trainer again.

You only Board when it's snowing...
...you only board when it's SSnnnowwiiinnnggg!
We (me and the Giddy Blonde) went to Glenshee this weekend and it was ACE. Like proper snow and everything. I can say, after 3 years of beginner lessons I have not only mastered the turn, but also the Poma's and am down on the ski lifts too. So very pleased with myself as I know think I can say 'I'm a boarder.' Not a very fast boarder but I'm going for style not speed.
We stayed in Braemar Lodge Hotel ran by what I can describe as very attentive but long suffering man and wife, and their Slovakian 'man-who-does'. The decoration was very 'Highland Retreat' with a herd of dead animals adorning the bar and hallway. Right on the edge of the village Braemar, 200 yards away from the snow gate so we had a prime view when they opened the Snow Gate - which isn't half as impressive as it sounds, more of a mud covered cattle gate - and convoyed the folk in the cars waiting by means of council gritter.
Once on the slopes I was amazing! Astounding! Magical! I was shooting pixies and unicorns out of my snowboarding wake (not really). And I only had a face full of snow once! And unlike the first time I went snowboarding, I didn't come back covered in gaffa tape!
That assides, on the way back the cyclist were out en masse. We ended up following (by accident, we're not psychos) a couple of guys, who judging by the way they kept rising from the saddle, and doing that odd little half wiggle that you do when your @rse nips and there's only so many places you can park your bum, hadn't been on their bikes in some time. I expect that will be me this weekend.
I am going forth with the turbo training and trying to do the whole heart rate zone thing. I've found it a bit complicated, and a bit tiresome to be honest. I was trying to do intervals in zone 5 (or 100%) then go down to zone 2. But it takes me ages to get down to zone 2. Like, aaggeeesss. And the purpose of the Heart Rate zone thing was to make it targeted and mibbies cut some time out so I wasn't thumping away needlessly. I've asked for some advice from some lovely forum people in how I can continue, so the plan is to re-group and include that at some point.

Playing nice with others...
...is something I'm not known for. At best I'm shy at my worst I come across as superior and any attempt at banter comes out down right hurtful, and the frustrating thing is I'm lovely. So knowing this I took me and myself down to Deeside Divas last Wednesday, which is run for free by these lovely people here.
On arrival I was 'inspected' then 'dismissed' as non-threatening, and then was I spoken too. Which I kind of expected, the first thing I do when I see someone on a bike, is check the bike - I've not got the 'leave your competitors in the dust' gene so seeing how fit they are isn't a consideration for me per se, but I understand others have that.
I was then spoken to by a man called Tim who was soo tall and lanky he looked like he'd been wrung through a Victorian wringer. He of course was OUR LEADER or COACH. Kind of. I wonder what he gets out of running a group of about 20 women in Lycra? He wasn't very shouty and didn't have any weird demands as OUR LEADER slash COACH and I was most disapointed when he didn't make me do endless sit ups whilst shouting 'NO PAIIINN!!!!!'.
We then headed up Causey Mounth, I intentionally hung back as I didn't want to awe everyone with my mountain climbing prowess, given that Causey Mounth isn't really a mountain and prowess is a term I'm using loosely to mean 'get out of breath a bit sweaty'. We had a little pootle for about a mile to put us in a group as we were doing an AMT (Australian Man Tango - I may have heard that wrong) Session, which is when the 'handicapped' get a two minute start beforethey unleash the dogs let the other cyclists try to catch up with them.
I of course was in the handicapped group, however I much prefer the term cyclistickly challenged. And I'm very cyclistickly challenged. I managed to keep up on the first lap, was dropped round on the second and ended up going round by myself on the last. With a lot of folk going 'Well done!' for managing a 4 mile route. And me wanting to go 'No!!! Honestly!!! Fuck Off!!! I'm just slow!!! I can do this all day!!! I've done this for 80 miles!!! Six weeks ago!!! According to Garry Garmin I have at least another 60 odd miles in me!!! ' But we weren't doing it all day. We'd only been up there for an hour, and were only going to be there for another 5 minutes at most. Or at least until I caught up with everyone who passed me on my last lap. So I kept my trap shut, and instead consoled myself with 'Well, it would have been disappointing to find myself the fastest. Where's the challenge in that really?'
At least I have somewhere to go. I think I'll go next week as well. I did enjoy myself and I haven't been out much though a bit more prep before hand might be an idea. Defo a snack or something before I leave, I only had a gel snot at the top of CM when he was explaining Alien Mouth Tent.
The metrics are quite interesting. My heart rate seems (in my opinion) to be a bit all over the place, moving time was just under two hours but my zones were just under an hour? Does that mean I wasn't working that hard consistently or that my hr monitor is not working - and as we know I do have misgivings about my heart rate monitor.
I do have other activities to post about but I'm running a bit behind due to other constraints. Myself and the Giddy Blonde have just come back from a weekend in Inverness (where there was some cycling) and where Not So Giddy Blonde may have to have his name changed to 'Mibbies not as Giddy but sure as hell cut from the same cloth Blonde'. Here's a 'Choice' excerpt from my Weekend -
Giddy: Do you know what a Gilet is?
Mibbies: Yes, no, is that a thing you carry babies in?
Giddy: No! That's a BAIN MARIE
Please don't put your baby in a bain marie.

Shoes with Toes...
I got these...
They smell like this...
They smell like this...
Only not as evil looking.
I went here (I have no idea why the lines look wiggy):
Initial tests are promising. But I want to try them a few times before I decide on how they go. Fit seems fine, I was worried that they were too small on my 4.5 size feet but they fit fine.

My heart rate monitor crapped out half way round (I think it was when I put it into my pocket), though I am now the proud owner of a pouch thing I can't say the name of because it either sounds like something a person with digestive problems would wear though the American versions much worse. It'll be useful for going on the bike when I've not got proper bike jerseys on.
I've signed up for a spin class next week, will be out on the bike some point one evening, and out on the feet again shortly.

You spin me right round baby...
Should have posted this on Tuesday so appols!
If you go to the proper site and press play you'll get a migrane watching the map dance. Bottled a few of the turns, so am thinking I might head out tomorrow again to practice my form. I also need to take some time back from work so I might shoot off about 4ish tomorrow and do some hill practice as well. I am actually feeling restless. I've gone from doing 80 miles a week, to doing nothing and my legs are doing some weird restless thing, feeling tense and awful. So a little won't hurt I figure.

Hello...
... It's getting dark up here. So in order to keep myself motivated for the winter on the bike I've installed this thing (blog) so I can track my progress and see how I'm going.
A big bit about myself...
I've been cycling about a year now in total. Myself and a mate grabbed on another mates Etape Caledonia and we've (well I) have been riding those coat tails ever since. Partly because it 'does' to be fit and healthy, but mostly because I tend not to go mental having a certain amount of miles under my tyres (geddit - please say no).
I cycle because I have inflamed hip flexors. I used to run (quite a bit) but then a spot of snowboarding (well 'leafing' was what I was doing) fecked my hips which made running painful. And also the dog was getting a bit too old to keep up. I'm also quite partial to a spot of yoga and the occasional pole dance (though more in the style of a russian gymnast than laydee of the nite - I've video taped myself once and it wasn't pretty, utalitarian was how it could best be described but never mind.)
The last big cycle race I did was a 64 miler round Ullapool. It took me 7 hours and 4 minutes and 18 miles from the end I nearly cried. I had no feeling in my break hand and at the curry with friends that night I tried to open a toilet door using the hinge.
The tools I aim to utilise are: 1 Luella (winter bike, Old Lady Dawes seeing her third decade), 1 turbo trainer, and 1 Specialized Dolce (I NEED that granny gear!) kept for best (not the sh!t of winter)and for using on the turbo trainer.
This week so far I've managed 4 miles with my blokie down the railway line. It was his birthday last week and me being the saddle w@nker I am I've bought him a second hand racer that needed two new tyres and the gears and chainset sound like some sort of old style hand machinery they're soo old.
I've also managed a few pottering around but I'm not sure how many yet. Just to and fro his to mine. But I'll save that for when I'm more sure of my miles.
